Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
The 1840s Ballroom has been hosting elegant events since 2002.
What is your primary product or service?
We serve as a conference center and special event venue for groups 250 - 400 guests. The fourth floor Ballroom provides an elegant alternative to hotel space for weddings, parties, corporate meetings and seminars.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Owner Anne Pomykala also owns and operates Gramercy Mansion, a bed & breakfast and conference center in Baltimore's Greenspring Valley. She has an active interest in historic preservation and supports the Carroll Museums, Heritage Walk and Historic Jonestown. The Fava Building was formerly home to the Baltimore City Life Museums. After being vacant for several years, Anne eagerly purchased the property and renovated and re-purposed the fourth floor as an event venue celebrating Baltimore's heritage in the style of the 1800s.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
The 1840s Ballroom features distinctive and elegant style, featuring hand-painted murals of 1840s Baltimore, a hand-carved mahogany and stained glass English pub bar and antique furnishings. The Fava Building itself features a stunning red-iron facade dating back to the 1700s.
