The Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM (TIES) seeks to provide an array of school support that focuses on teaching and learning for students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. TIES recognizes the importance of high school design and professional development for all teachers in an effort to improve the character of STEM teaching for students regardless of grade level. TIES understands that there needs to be a shift in the teaching of STEM disciplines to focus less on fragmented and isolated bits of discrete scientific information and more on scientific understanding and reasoning. Students then may earn a modern framework from which to make sense of the world.
